Chat services provided by the St. Paddy's Day 1998 Websites

The following is a transcript from the Clannad Chat on March 31 1997 at 6:00 PM EST. (Note the time stamps on the transcripts are two hours behind. The server was probably in the US Mountain Time Zone.)

16:00 Peter Pehrson: Or rather, trathnona mhaith duit :-)
16:00 Harry Sarkas: Welcome Maire and Ciaran (from Atlanta) ! !
16:00 ponder: [enter]
16:00 Gruntbuggly: [enter]
16:00 CLANNAD: We would like it to be soon - maybe in the autumn. It is difficult to get our 10 members together to
16:00 CLANNAD: tour. If the album does well in America it will have an effect on how we will travel.
16:00 Sean Rhea: Signing in from Nashville, TN here!
16:01 Andy Staves: What about the UK, a tour here?
16:01 df: [renamed Dave]
16:01 Sabalom Glitz: Well, my friends and I in the States will do our best. :)
16:01 Konrad_NL: [enter]
16:01 Andy Staves: I missed the Lore tour as I had to do a youth club!! Still got the ticket though!
16:01 Cailin: I really enjoy your vocal arrangements. How did you develope your chemistry?
16:02 John Whatmough: Hear that ringers! Everybody buy two!
16:02 CLANNAD: We will probably be touring in the Netherlands in October
16:02 dc: Will there be any promotional video out soon?
16:02 Quickmoon: I'm planning on it, John.
16:02 Boadicea_ch: Any chance of getting to France/Germany/Switzerland?
16:03 Michael E_: Is there a new video in the works?
16:03 CLANNAD: Hi Cailin, we developed in my father's tavern for 1/2 hour - we started singing local songs.
16:03 Sean Rhea: I am doing my best to introduce as many people as possible to Landmarks
16:03 Peter Pehrson: What about Denmark, Viv? ;-)
16:03 Andy Staves: Well if you are struggling to get the members together I play a mean flute and tin whistle
16:03 CLANNAD: We did alot of collecting of these local songs - we put alot of positive energy in arranging these songs
16:04 Gruntbuggly: CLANNAD, which album would you say was the most produced?
16:04 Peter Pehrson: He's a great man, your father. And humouristic :-)
16:04 Cailin: Hi, back! I just discovered you this year, so if I'm asking old questions, let me know?
16:04 CLANNAD: We haven't done any videos yet but it's up to the record companies and the management.
16:04 laslo: Will you mix any songs from Perfect time with landmarks on the tour?
16:05 Sean Rhea: I know this is a bit chaotic, Maire and Ciaran! Can you help members of the discussion list solve a
16:05 Sean Rhea: mystery though/ We've been debating what the story is with "Hourglass"? Was it just recorded as a
16:05 Sean Rhea: B-side, since there was a partial video shot for Past Present. Was the full video featured anywhere?
16:05 CLANNAD: No we will no mix Perfect Time and Landmarks - we have enough songs on Landmarks to please everyone.
16:05 Kimberly: [enter]
16:06 Quickmoon: Thank you, Sean, I can't word anything properly today.
16:06 CLANNAD: We haven't been asked to go to Denmark - yet. No we haven't been there.
16:06 Andy Staves: How about London Clannad]
16:06 Gruntbuggly: Maire, I heard that you will be doing some dates in the US for Perfect Time, is that true?
16:06 Andy Staves: ?
16:06 Michael E_: Landmarks is a great album. When you write original music, do you tend to write the lyrics or the
16:06 Michael E_: tunes first?
16:06 Peter Pehrson: :-) I'm afraid it's more of a mainstream country, generally.
16:07 Jason Baker: [exit]
16:07 CLANNAD: Yes there was a video made of Hourglass - I don't know where it has gone.

[There is a gap here in the transcript. I have e-mailed the site who ran the chat to get the full transcript.]
16:23 Andy: So, London?
16:23 Gruntbuggly: Argh again
16:23 Michael E: I think you will be remembered for it.
16:24 Konrad_NL: I think you made a *great* contribution to Irish music
16:24 lance: you ARE irish music
16:24 CLANNAD: Thank you everyone for your support and understanding of the
16:24 CLANNAD: music. We are so amazed by all the letters we receive and hope
16:24 CLANNAD: to meet you sometime
16:24 Boadicea_CH: Even in Swiss newspapers, Clannad was quoted as a "must"
16:24 Boadicea_CH: Irish music band... :)
16:24 Harry Sarkas: Maire/Ciaran...Did you perform at the Gael Force concert
16:24 Harry Sarkas: after or during the recording of Landmarks?
16:24 Larry: Maire - Who are some of YOUR favorite musical influences?
16:24 Andy: I've even asked for one of your songs to be played at my
16:24 Andy: funereal!!!!!!!
16:24 John Whatmough: Clannad, would you be interested in posting tour dates,
16:24 John Whatmough: etc on my website? Thousands of people visit it!
16:24 Peter Pehrson: Larry: Leo :-)
16:25 Sean Rhea: BTW, guys..."Landmarks" and "Perfect Time" are both
16:25 Sean Rhea: phenomenal!
16:25 Quickmoon: There's a comforting thought...I'd go for wedding or
16:25 Quickmoon: anniversary, myself.
16:25 CLANNAD: My youngest child, Paul is 4 1/2 and Ashlyn is 6 - I'm very
16:25 CLANNAD: blessed.
16:25 Gruntbuggly: Ciaran, how many hats do you have?
16:26 John Whatmough: Uh, oh, the hat question....
16:26 Quickmoon: Though that's more than a few years off.
16:26 Michael E: What song Andy, A Bridge That Carries Us Over? (ha)
16:26 CLANNAD: Joney Mitchell, Mamas and the Papas, the Beatles of course - I
16:26 CLANNAD: listen to all kinds of music
16:26 Andy: Can anyone see what I am saying? Clannad don't seem to be answering
16:26 Andy: me!!
16:26 anonymous: [enter]
16:26 Konrad_NL: Andy: I can see you
16:28 boadicea_ch: [enter]
16:28 LHC: [enter]
16:28 CLANNAD: I have 30 baseball hats, hats about 10 from everywhere to Australia
16:28 Harry Sarkas: [enter]
16:28 Quickmoon: [exit]
16:28 Sabalom Glitz: Maire: How did you become involved in "Robin of Sherwood"??
16:28 laslo: [enter]
16:28 Konrad_NL: [exit]
16:28 Konrad_NL: [enter]
16:28 John Whatmough: And the hat question is answered!
16:29 Gruntbuggly: Hey, I like hats!
16:29 Norris_SK: It seems that Donegal has a strong presence in Irish music, any explanation?
16:29 Andy: Robin of Sherwood had some GREAT music!
16:29 John Whatmough: Andy, I think we're both being lost in the shuffle!
16:29 anonymous: [enter]
16:29 irish lovah: we love you CLANNAD!
16:29 Quickmoon: [enter]
16:30 CLANNAD: We haven't decided when we will be touring - but we will most likely be in the british isle
16:30 Andy: I know, I only want to know whether there is going to be a UK tour
16:30 John Whatmough: Clannad, are the songs from Robin of Sherwood that did not appear in Legends appear anywhere
16:30 John Whatmough: else?
16:30 Peter Pehrson: Sean: I'm logging but lost a few mins. You logging?
16:30 Sean Rhea: Give them time...I'm sure they're overwhelmed by questions! :)
16:30 boadicea_ch: Norris, I think it's something they put in the water... ;)
16:30 Andy: Yes!!! thanks Clannad!!
16:30 anonymous: [enter]
16:30 Sean Rhea: Peter: Yes
16:30 John Whatmough: Loggers, so far I've got everything!
16:30 Quickmoon: There you go....:::is attempting to figure this out:::
16:30 Andy: Make sure that you update your site soon John!!
16:31 Michael E: Ciaran, what instrument do you prefer to play for enjoyment?
16:31 Konrad_NL: I think the computer has had one whiskey too many....
16:31 Quickmoon: Good job there. Okay...my well-thought out question is: Do you have a favorite song on Landmarks?
16:31 Peter Pehrson: John: gr8 - please send to euhp@get2net.dk and I will post it on Enya Unofficial Home Page too.
16:31 anonymous: [exit]
16:31 John Whatmough: Andy, you betcha!
16:31 John Whatmough: Peter, no problem!
16:31 Sean Rhea: So Maire/CiaranL Any chance we'll see an official fanclub? I'm ready and willing to do my part to make
16:31 Sean Rhea: one work!
16:31 CLANNAD: Robin of Sherwood - we recorded in London 81 and 82, we came back to Ireland, we wonder what our 2nd
16:31 CLANNAD: album would be, I noticed they were shooting Robin ( in the paper ) and asked if they need music. The
16:31 CLANNAD: producer asked us to come the location and have a chat.
16:31 Rick: [enter]
16:31 Gruntbuggly: Maire, why did you record Perfect Time in Nashville?
16:32 Sabalom Glitz: Konrad: Who let the computer drink beforehand! :)
16:32 Rick: I've loved your music ever since I saw "Harry's Game".
16:32 Sean Rhea: Grunt: Hey...Nashville's a great place, but I'm biased! :)
16:32 boadicea_ch: Rick: I found the film, "Harry's Game" a little... uhm... not terribly interesting ;))
16:32 Rick: [exit]
16:32 Andy: I was introduced to you through Robin of Sherwood!!! Thanks for those great tracks
16:33 isa: [enter]
16:33 Peter Pehrson: But Patriot Games is good, and the music fits there, too.
16:33 CLANNAD: We;'ve had a couple of disasters with fan clubs - so, I don't think so. I fear to let people down if we
16:33 CLANNAD: are not on hand. With the internet and such it will be easier to set something up there.
16:33 John Whatmough: Clannad, is there any way we can contact you via e-mail?
16:33 boadicea_ch: Peter: absolutely, it's perfect there!
16:33 John Whatmough: Sean, do I dare teleport us all to my site?
16:34 Quickmoon: No! That threw me off terrribly last time.
16:34 isa: What is your training background on the harp
16:34 CLANNAD: None of us are on email at the moment - soon we will.
16:34 Sean Rhea: Sorry to hear about your back luck with the fanclubs
16:34 Norris_SK: It seems that Donegal has a strong presence in Irish music, any explanation?
16:34 Peter Pehrson: Yes, the Internet is a perfect platform. Unfortunately there's a risk of piracy of sound as I see
16:34 Peter Pehrson: with Enya.
16:34 Andy: Well I have to go folks, I have been here for over an hour already!! Night and God Bless!
16:34 dom: please dont teleport...
16:34 Sean Rhea: John: prolly not a great idea
16:35 Quickmoon: Afternoon here, but good night, Andy.
16:35 Michael E: Slan agat, Andy.
16:35 Andy: Clannad, just to let you know that you have influenced me in my own music so much, keep up the good work
16:35 Andy: and keep using those great talents you have been given!
16:35 LHC: Clannad, speaking of movie, what is the story behind your contribution in Warriors of Virtue? It is a
16:35 LHC: surprise yet mystical? and what exactly "Forces of Nature" about?
16:35 Andy: I have to be up early, going to Manchester!!
16:35 Konrad_NL: Aren't we as "The Magical Ring" Mailing List some kind of Fan Club :-)
16:36 Quickmoon: I love that song...
16:36 CLANNAD: Ciaran: The piano. Maire: I suppose I like the harp but I like playing the keyboard.
16:36 Sean Rhea: Maire/ Ciaran: Is there a way that fans can get merchandise (t-shirts, posters, etc)? Folks on the
16:36 Sean Rhea: Clannad discussion list...esp. those of us in the US...have been wanting tour shirts.
16:36 Norris_SK: When you are in Donegal, do you perform at Leo's ?
16:36 Sean Rhea: Konrad: Yes, I think so... :)
16:36 Quickmoon: I consider us an intelligent fanclub...of course...there are some exceptions to the rule...:::points
16:36 Quickmoon: to herself:::
16:37 Andy: Decided to stay a while longer, this is too good to miss!!
16:38 John Whatmough: The only problem with Magical Ring as a fan club is that we get information second hand...
16:38 CLANNAD: Unfortunately the only real place to get merchandise is from Leo Tavern - my father's pub, for now -
16:38 CLANNAD: hopefully more places soon.
16:38 Gruntbuggly: Noel, what inspired you to write "Trail of Tears"?
16:38 Sean Rhea: Clannad: If you decide to tour the states, swing by Nashville, TN and the Guinness is on me
16:38 Quickmoon: Wow...the time is weird, it being only 4 in the afternoon here...:::is thinking hard for another
16:38 Quickmoon: question:::
16:38 Sean Rhea: :)
16:38 Peter Pehrson: [enter]
16:38 Michael E: When you write original music, do you tend to write the tunes first or the lyrics?
16:38 John Whatmough: Hey, I'll be in Donegal in May. I'll have to see whats there!
16:39 Cailin: [exit]
16:39 Andy: John ....Me too!!!
16:39 Michael E: (Hey Sean, do you ever go to Seanachie in Nashville?)
16:39 Ed: John, do you take orders ?
16:39 Sean Rhea: Michael: Mulligans is better, but yes...
16:39 Cailin: [enter]
16:39 CLANNAD: Warriors of Virtue: just a movie last year - we were asked to write piece of music for it - its on a
16:39 CLANNAD: b-side in Holland, anyway.
16:39 Peter Pehrson: Talking fan clubs. I was part of setting up an Enya club. It's a lot more work than most people
16:39 Peter Pehrson: think... takes a bunch of time. As does a website.
16:39 John Whatmough: Ed, what do you mean?
16:39 Quickmoon: Oh yes...I have money now!
16:40 Konrad_NL: I have one of Leo's T_shirts. They're nice.
16:41 Ed: There was talking of some merchandise and Leo's was the only place to get it at this moment
16:41 Quickmoon: Are we blipping or is just me?
16:41 CLANNAD: If its for something visual, you have the theme so the words fall in place. We try to vary alot. Mostly
16:41 CLANNAD: the melody comes first, the rest around that.
16:41 Peter Pehrson: Me too Konrad. :-)
16:41 Gruntbuggly: (In case you missed the question) Noel, what inspired "Trail of Tears"
16:41 Cailin: I'm back. Having some problems. So, I wanted to mention that I liked the sound of Olive, Dee and Bridin
16:41 Cailin: on your albums, Maire. Are we to hear any of them in future Clannad prjects??
16:41 John Whatmough: Is Noel here? I don't think he is...
16:42 Quickmoon: The Duggan's aren't with us tonight.
16:42 Cailin: We're blipping, Quickmoon.
16:42 Andy: Okay I am going this time nice to see you all - John get this on line soon!!!!!!!
16:42 John Whatmough: That's what I thought...
16:42 Konrad_NL: I thought just Maire and Ciaran
16:42 John Whatmough: Andy, see you later!
16:42 CLANNAD: Maire: I might be in Donegal next week - but for mostly holidays, summers and other festivals.
16:42 CLANNAD: Christmasl is important for family.
16:43 CLANNAD: Birthdays are important too - since there are 9 of us.
16:43 Anglophle: [enter]
16:43 John Whatmough: Clannad, will you bee doing any local concerts in Dublin or Donegal in May?
16:43 Gruntbuggly: CLANNAD-What would you like to achieve that you haven't achieved yet.
16:43 Cailin: Nine! How many WC's?
16:43 Andy: I'll mail you john, if we are in Donegal at the same time we should meet up
16:43 Quickmoon: I know I'M blipping...but that's just me. Oh yes...the dentist question...
16:43 Michael E: I'm a Gaelic speaker...when you go home, do you tend to speak it most?
16:43 boadicea_ch: Maire/Ciaran, how can you describe the atmosphere during composition? are there tensions? is it made
16:43 boadicea_ch: easier or more difficult by the fact that you're family?
16:44 laslo: I really enjoyed Lore, it rarely leaves the cd player.
16:44 Peter Pehrson: Good advice if you go to Donegal: Rent a car!!!!
16:44 John Whatmough: Andy, okay, I assume you know it. :)
16:44 CLANNAD: Trail of Tears: Noel is in Germany at the moment - I wrote the song "I will find you" for Last of the
16:44 CLANNAD: Mohecans.
16:44 Andy: yep!!
16:44 Sean Rhea: Clannad: So if you had to pick one of your songs YOU like best, which would it be?
16:44 Andy: Peter, I can drive there!!
16:44 CLANNAD: One more question.
16:44 Peter Pehrson: Ah....
16:44 John Whatmough: I'm renting!
16:45 Anglophle: CLANNAD--I just entered and I'm sorry if it's been asked, but are there any plans for a US tour? You
16:45 Anglophle: guys are my all-time favorite group and it'll kill me if I can't see you live!!!
16:45 Cailin: Ummm.
16:45 John Whatmough: US tour in fall, maybe, pass it on...
16:45 Anglophle: Oh, and Maire, you have the most beautiful voice I've ever heard. Just wanted to say that. It gives
16:45 Anglophle: me chills.
16:45 Sean Rhea: Clannad: Thanks SO MUCH for taking the time to talk with us!
16:45 Ed: Clannad, how about a "live" album or video ?
16:45 Andy: We have one more question make the most of it!!
16:46 John Whatmough: Clannad, what are your plans for the future. Where will your music be going next?
16:46 Sean Rhea: Especially a live album of recent works
16:46 Quickmoon: Fudge...I feel slow today...my questions just shadow their's so I'll be quiet. Oh, yes. I have to say
16:46 Quickmoon: thanks now too. Thanks.
16:46 Cailin: It won't be me to come up with the last question. I have to go now. It's been nice meeting you. Love
16:46 Cailin: to all!
16:46 CLANNAD: The last album we had a fantastic time - relaxed atmosphere. We rented a house in the mountains and
16:46 CLANNAD: installed equipement. Very inspirational and no tensions at all.
16:46 Gruntbuggly: Thanks for coming by, Maire and Ciaran. I enjoyed the opportunity, despite the insanity here
16:46 Gruntbuggly: tonight. Thanks very
16:46 John Whatmough: Clannad, what are your plans for the future. Where will your music be going next?
16:46 Gruntbuggly: much
16:47 Harry Sarkas: Maire/Ciaran...If you tour, please include Atlanta too! Thanks soo much for staying up so late!
16:47 boadicea_ch: I wish it were like that in my family ;)) Thanks a lot, Maire and Ciaran, for being here tonight
